Case study with our client in State Government

Delivering an information governance framework and implementation roadmap in State Government

Challenge

Enhancing information and data maturity

Our client is a state government department on a strategic journey to get its Information Management (IM) house in order.

They have undertaken a significant organisation-wide project that is multi-faceted in scope, covering the areas of data warehouse implementation, PRIS, PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), AI and analytics, audit findings, information management, and operational considerations.

With the enormity of this umbrella initiative, part of the challenge for our client’s team was to undertake a substantial information governance review. This assessment work was needed to help the Department enhance its information and data maturity by ensuring better regulatory compliance, data quality, and consistency for data-driven decision-making.

The high-level priority goals included:

  • Eliminating information silos.
  • Ensuring data is trustworthy and of high quality.
  • Guaranteeing that all data is secure and shared responsibly.
  • Implementing policies that meet compliance regulations.
  • Identifying the locations of data and understanding how to access it.
Solution

Fit-for-purpose information governance framework and roadmap

To achieve this vision, the Department engaged DataDivers, leveraging our expertise in data governance and related disciplines to evaluate, design and implement a right-sized information governance framework and strategy, and a comprehensive roadmap.

Our team facilitated a series of in-depth workshops with key stakeholders to assess the current state, define future aspirations, and conduct a gap analysis against goals, industry best practices, and State Government frameworks and policies.

Having drawn deep insights and holistic understanding from these workshops, we were in a strong position to deliver a robust information governance framework and a 36-month roadmap. This roadmap was substantial, focusing month-by-month on right-sized chunks of work laid out across the streams of People, Process, Technology, Communication, and Training.

Value delivered

Clarity on where to start and how to move forwards

This collaboration resulted in a range of impactful deliverables that set the Department on the right course, including:

  • A robust, structured approach to information governance through a framework that is:
  • Fit-for-purpose with the scale of the Department (more than 1,900 people).
  • Abides by State Records Office policies and State Government frameworks and policies.
  • A comprehensive 36-month roadmap that shows a clear way forward to achieve implementation of this framework, broken down into attainable monthly packages of work for clarity of direction.
